VAG COM and Porsche

Interesting one for comment, previous car was a VW so had invested in the vag-com HEX-COM tool some time ago, having a few moments spare thought I would check to see what would happen if I plugged it in to the diagnostic port and tried to read some modules, result! managed to read modules 01, 02 and 31, tried a few others at random and no success, but on the modules I could read I had full access (engine and transmission), this included all the read data (rpm, gear select, O2 etc etc), also had access to adaption settings and coding settings. In addition using the ODB tool within vag-com could check and clear any DTC's (didn't have any :) )Has anybody else tried vag com on their Porsche and had any more success at reading modules?

I have tried it on the Porsche's and it is not accurate. For real diagnostics it is not realiable data. As for the activations/setting and coding---------Beware, we frYed a couple of Dme,s trying it. Vag-Com is great for what it was designed for----THE VAG CARS. :huh:

Yes, there is. It is called PST2 or PIWIS depending on the version.

A PST2 is no longer made and a used one is about $3600. PIWIS is the current Porsche tool and it is $18,000/year leased.

i use vagcom, at work, and the new version has a generic obd function. it works on all the german makes aside from bmw, which i use carsoft for. i have to second the previous comment about frying modules. if you switch to basic settings, in vagcom, you run the risk of damaging modules. the durametric tool is very nice to have and hopefully once more independents start using it the software will become more robust. vagcom allows you to do several tests, i.e. run evap leak tests, run secondary air injection tests, etc. whereas the durametric doesn't. if anyone has found a way to run diagnostic tests, using the durametric tool, please post it.
