Hi again everyone.......I am opening this new topic to anyone that could educate me on the "PLENUM". I read on couple occasions,people mentioning that the "Plenum" made a difference in power. Most often it is described as the RSS Plenum. Could you please explain what it is, and if it can safely be part of a performance upgrade endeavor.

Thanks in advance for sharing any mentoring, and advice.

The "RSS" Plenum is the manufacturer. The concept is to better channel the airflow trough a contoured "Y" type casting rather than the "T" configuration in the stock plenum. The "Y" configuration will increase flow rates due to it's better aerodynamic shape and internal geometries, therefor, more air, more hp's. Check out this thread. The price is rather high for a casting and some machining at $800.00.

Those stupid Germans! They need to increase the size of the air box and add a second air intake, increase the diameter of the intake manifold and throttle bodies, modify the heads, increase the spring tension on the exhaust values to allow for a 300 rpm higher red line and subsequently increase the rpm of where the engine will produce peak power, install freer flowing exhaust headers and modify the ECU to be compatible with these differing parameters and only to get 26 more hp.

With the magic plenum you add a 6” piece of plumbing midway through the intake system and gain 30 more hp!

I followed the Plenum group buy on 6speedonline and never once saw a before (bone stock) and after (just the plenum) dyno run, ¼ mile ET or timed lap times, just a bunch of “butt dynos”.

I think there are a lot of very gullible individuals out there.

Actually there were several dyno runs done on the 996 side of 6speedonline with the 3.6L, I saw 7-8rwhp at peak hp and 10 ft/lbs of tq at peak. At the delta there was a 20rwhp gain but only for 300-400rpm. I actually did a search for this last night on 6speedonline and found it. Do a search on the 996 board of 6speed you will find it.

I got more power from mine. I'm happy I did it and would do it again.

That is a far cry from the Road Sport Supply claim of increases of 27 hp and 25 ft/lbs of torque. That’s 59% to 63% less hp power and 28% to 40% less torque. It’s seemingly apparent that the manufacturer is overly optimistic with their claimed power increases.

I’m curious but what kind of power gains where you expecting and what did you actually archive when you installed your RSS Plenum?

I agree there is no need for snide remarks on this forum. It's supposed to be a discussion.

Before I installed the plenum I had no anticipation of 27hp gains. All I hoped for was a noticible gain. That is what I got. We all know that aftermarket folks exagerrate the gains from their products (The MAF cleaner says you will gt 10-12 rear wheel horspower gains LOL!)

Mods are a hobby and some individuals like doing them. Whether they are worth the money or not is not really the question.

Hopefully someone will actually do an unbiased dyno run with the RSS plenum and post the results.

Do you know what sarcasm is? Read the whole post. The “those stupid Germans” comment was a sarcastic comment meaning that if the builders of the best engineered cars in the world need to go through all they do with the X51 kit to gain 26 hp how does a shop in California get an additional 27 hp from a 6” piece of pipe? I am of German ancestry with a German surname, worked for German car companies for 35 years (VW, Porsche and BMW) so back off. The comment was in no way meant as condescending to Germans.

Thanks for the dyno graphs on the Caymen S but last I saw this was the 997 forum and my references have been exclusively to what the RSS plenum does for the 997S. I still want to see a dyno showing a 27 hp gain.

Not defending RSS as I do feel it's misleading that the 27hp gain they are claiming is at the widest point of the delta, not peak which is in the 10rwhp range.
