How to remove the headlight's triangle piece?

Remove the headlight (see your owners manual). Then carefully snap the corner piece out.

How do they snap off? the piece sounds pretty crunchy when I press on it. I have a feeling whatever tabs it has will break off.

I had removed my headlight today to re-route the emergency trunk release cable. I reinstalled the headlight no problem and is locked in. But I noticed that gap between my bumper and that triangle piece. The headlight is sitting very firmly in place. Is that gap caused by the headlight mounting plate sitting too high?

There are small posts and a snap fit arm. Take out the piece you are going to throw away, further damage doesn't matter on it. Then study the piece and see what I'm talking about, it becomes clear as you look at it you need to seat the posts and receivers first then the arm is meant to snap into place. Practicing on the broken piece first is a good idea too, the headlamp is far more robust than the triangle. Finally, if you need to, put a small amount of vaseline on the snap points to assist in fitment then wipe clean, I've replaced both of mine.
