Cruise control

Its very easy retrofit a Cayenne (2003-2010) with Cruise Control. Buy a stalk from Touareg or av Q7 from the scrapyard and fix a cable from pin #5 in the stalk and connect it to the grey/yellow cable at the DME pin #A38 an use PIWIS to code "steeringcolumn" and "DME" that Cruise Control is fitted on your car. Very simple and your car is "upgraded" witha small piece if labour!

Hi all and thanks for the useful info.

 

I have started sourcing the parts for my 08 cayenne and want to commence with this upgrade. I need some help in the wiring. I have seen it is from stalk pin 5 to A38. Can you please provide pictures if you have on how the wiring is made especially from the stalk side as the cruise stalk is fitted in the indicator stalk and cannot access the cruise stalk plug directly to connect the wire . Which pin is it from the main plug near the indicator stalk?

 

I understand it is an old post but just in case anyone has kept some info or pics from his project.

Has anyone ever found out where wire physically goes?

Stalk plugs into electronic unit so you cant fix a wire to pin 5, Ive got stalk fitted but stumped re wiring it up.

 

Any help appreciated

I can't help with photos, but these diagrams show where the wire is connected at the steering column, and where it runs to on the DME (via a plug/socket).

I will have another look this weekend, guessing the plug at the steering side is the one that plugs into the rear left of the stalk module.

i am in the same position as well ,corriepups, i have the stalk fitted as well ( that was the easy bit  :lol: ) but now are stuck on the wiring .did you get any further yet ?

I'm usually pretty good at these things ,but i just don't want to connect to the wrong place and fry something. Cheers.

I think the problem here is finding where to connect the wire to pin 5 on steering column. Anyone done this and can explain where to find pin 5? A socket somewhere?

It looks to me from the wiring diagram that it might be a 16-pin plug (A), and you may find pin 5 is the place to connect. Are there several plugs which connect to the steering column module?

Everything cost me 400 NOK, that is about $50. Hope the programming will be in same price range

Managed to connect stalk and the cable to DME  :thumbup:

 

 

Here is how (sorry for my bad english) :

 

• Bought a Cruise Control stalk for VW Touareg on Ebay from Poland (about $20 - I'm from Norway, but convert to $ for you here)
• Bought this directly from Porsche for about $15 :
• 955 044 903 01 - wiring harness 
• N 103 357 01 - pin
• 999 650 135 22 - contact bush
• N 909 068 01 - torx screws - (2 PCs!)
• N 910 207 01 - screw

Total about $35  :king:

For the cabling, this is what I did :

 

 

New stalk for Touareg fitted

Stalk connector where you must find pin #5

Stalk connector with pin numbers printed

Release the smaller connector inside the big connector. Pin numbers are printed. Make cable ready with pin, and insert it to #5

Remove trim under dashboard above pedals. Easy, only 1 screw and plug for light and ODB-port

Secure the new cable "under there" so it will not get loose or something. I lay it round a thick cable harness. Inside there, above the parking brake pedal, almost as high as the mirror, there is a big rubber seal that cable harness goes through. Stick a sharp metal "thing" through the top to make a small hole for the cable (I taped the cable to the metal "thing" and drag both through the new hole.

This is from engine room, next to fuse box. You see the cable come through the rubber sealing.

I opened the cable harness from DME, you see all the cables inside there. To the right in picture you see the new cable from Cruise Control stalk (Pin #5). I removed the lid on fuse box to get more access, but you probably manage without doing that also.

Cables in harness, open it with a little force with your hands.

DME removed, 2 big connectors below. The one to left is where pin A#38 is located. If you look inside the connector there are very tiny numbers with pin numbers. Locate #38. If cable is missing, you must connect the new cable here. In my car, the cable is in place (yellow/grey)

There are two grey/yellow cables inside harness, we need to find the correct one. Use an ohm-meter to do this, use a thin needle in pin A#38 on DME-connector to get connection during this test. Remove a bit if the cable shielding to access the copper. I missed, so I succeeded on the second cable.

Solder the new cable from stalk to the correct cable that goes to pin A#38

Insulate properly!

 

Next part now is to program the car to activate Cruise Control. I have ordered cable and software from China, but that is probably only for reading, not programming. Maybe I need to drive to Porsche and let them activate it with PIWIS. Lets see how it goes. My goal is to do this as cheap as possible!

Beware with this China junk, it would be an expensive purchase if some control boxes will be blown up. I would not recommend it.

Hi all

 

Finally got Cruise Control activated! China-junk was not able to program it, and did not want to spend so much money on Durametric. Booked a half hour at Porsche so they used PIWIS to activate it.

IT WORKS! Yohoo!

 

$35 in parts (from Poland and Norway)

$130 for activating the function with PIWIS at Porsche workshop in Norway.

Did you look at my pictures? Wire should be between pin just below stalk (a few centimeters, you will see the connector). Make a hole in rubber sealing in torpedo wall so you get the other end of cable to engine room (wiper-area). DME is on other side of engine room, so you need to get the cable to the other side. Or do as I did, find the correct wire and solder them together on drivers side.

Hi guys i know its an old post but i've just bought a Cayenne without cruise, i have followed this thread and it now has cruise thanks to you guys, easy diy fit, i did it without removing steering wheel, and without soldering, i also used Audi parts as they are much cheaper and easier available to me, Porsche charged me £50 to code jobs a goodun.

Also i found a genuine all electric tow bar and have now fitted that to so its just what i wanted after all!

By the way Lians, Iwas also capable of fitting the Tempomap stalk without removing the steering wheel... Just a bit of wiggling around.

I heard again that there are cayenne that dont need extra wiring, but which one do you have? 957 gts?

Hey guys, i hope any of you might be able to assist me on this, so on a 957 my plugs are not the same, one is a more wide and is located on the driver side the wider (the dme still on the passenger side) but the connectors are opposite. do you know should i connect it at the pin 38 of the big plug? thanks in advance
