adjusting side mirror to tilt down on reverse

I saw from the owners manual that my side mirror is supposed to tilt down when I reverse my car. It's not doing that and I'm wondering if I can fix that.

Has anybody done it before?

Yes, when you "set" the seat memory have the transmission in reverse.

An additional bit of information is that for night time driving you can "automatically" tilt both outside mirror down slightly (5 degrees?) by duplicating "your" seat memory with a second selection, say ignition key and last seat memory button, but with the mirrors tilted down.

I have 99 996 C2 manual with memory seats and I’ve read the owners manual but, I never seen anything on the mirrors tilting when putting the car in reverse. Please elaborate.

I think the procedure is to have the gear in reverse, while you set the memory setting.

Necessity really is the mother of invention.

I wanted a convex outside mirror for the driver's side and the self-dimming one was a tad too expensive. So I bought the convex mirror only with heat and developed, thunk up, the aforementioned technique.

Never thought much of the automatic self-dimming feature anyway.

I was told you need the E-Gas for this feature... so maybe that and the memory seats together?

You not only need E-gas and the electronic seats, you have to make sure the blinker fluid is toped off. I get mine from here, thanks to Scott "Ranger"

Izzy, I don't know if it makes a whole lot of difference, but I stick with OEM blinker fluid.

It blinks smoother and quieter, and the reverse tilt function also swivels smoother as well.

Worth the few extra dollars IMHO.

On a serious note, I'm having trouble having my seat memory work with my key. I have a 2004 C4S. According to the manual, if I put the key in the ingnition...turn the car on....and then set the seat, mirrors and the tilt down reverse opiton, it should recognize this when I open the door with the remote. It doesn't work. When I press the button to open the door, the seat moves back to the max, then I have to press my memory button to get the position I want. What am I doing wrong?

when I asked about it they didn't miss a beat "Oh, you need the e-gas for that"

I have a 1999 C4 Cab Tip (which has Egas and memory seats) and the passenger side mirror tilts down when I place the car in reverse. I would like to turn off the tilt down feature. When I set my preferred seat setting I had the car in Park.

Does anyone know how to turn off the tilt down feature for this car?

I came up with this question about two years ago. While some reported to have used the programming in reverse thing on their cars I never got that trick to work on mine (MY99 996C4 with seat memory). I went to the dealer where they use the PST to switch it on or off. Mine did it for free while the car was in for inspection as well as activating the autlock feature.Thorsten

well, I like the 15-50 blinker fluid, but many here prefer the 0-40. I use Red Line, but most use Mobil 1. Have to be careful not to overfill your blinker tank, or you will get blinker fluid running down your leg when you hit 125 on a hard right auto-x corner. Let the blinker fluid wars begin... forget all the previous oil wars, and "just have fun." Cheers and happy Christmas to all.
