OK, I just noticed tonight that at idle which goes away immediately as RPM's/oil pressure increase. It sounds like one lifter is ticking on the passenger side- not catastrophically loud, but loud enough- especially if you are standing on the passenger side. It is barely audible from the drivers side. Anyway, when I first heard the tick, it reminded me of all my other OHC motors that had lifter tick where a good "cleaning" with Marvel Mystery Oil or ATF mixed in with the oil for a few hundred miles solved it but wanted to ask those who have been here longer and have more Porsche experience than myself.

I have searched here and have read everything from "oh my god, it's going to blow up shortly" to "just run thicker oil and it'll be fine". Has a general consensus ever been made as to the seriousness of this? The car has 74k on it and certainly isn't the first ticking lifter I have ever heard and most of them are a non-issue other than some noise, so it didn't concern me until I read some of the posts here.

I have the same problem also. I had 0w50 oil, added the mystery oil for about 300 miles. The mystery oil made no difference. I now changed to 5w50 oil the only difference was the noise is a little more noticible when the engine was cold. With the 5w50 the noise is not always present. Anybody out there with a solution as I dont want to tackle a lifter replacement just yet.

Hi

I have been told about Swepco 502 Oil Improver for reducing the tapping in a noisy lifter. Has any body tried this.

Sorry, just saw the replies. I tried the MMO to clean it prior to my last oil change and it is still present when warm at idle. I have not tried anything else. anyone have any luck trying anything else? I'm ultimately going to have to replace them, but wanted to see what others were doing first.
