Just a curiosity question. Are all factory installed litronics auto leveling (option code 601). I've also read on this forum that auto leveling lights start in the down position and raise to the level position. Is this true or just a perception because it takes a short time for the litronics to build a charge to ignite.

I don't know for sure if _all_ litronics are auto-leveling or not (I'd guess they are), but I have seen them in action and they do "move" when first turned on. It is definitely not perceptual due to the "xenon charge".

The movement is part of the self test, with the ignition on switch on the lights, they move downwards then back up

Mine is a USA car 2002 Boxster S and the sticker states options 601 (litronic headlights) and 288 (headlight washer). I just checked and the lights come on in the forward position and do not raise from a lowered position. When the brights are turned on the litronics are in the same area as the bright beam, but they do not seem to move when the brights are turned on/off. Does this mean something is "broke" or that they are not auto leveling?

Aftermarket Litronics don't self raise

But you have washers which implies factory installed at build time. So, if you shine your lights onto the side of a building, you should see the beams move to fill in the spot between just low beams and where the high beams are.

I don't no what US types do but you need a PIWIS or similar tool to check the fault codes. Start to check the headlights, good chance that the second connector have a bat contact or even loose.
