996TT warning bell

My 996TT had been left for over 5 days so the remote didn't work. So I unlocked it with the key and by accident set off the alarm.

After driving it and parking up, I turned it off and a warning bell goes off when I open the door. The car says the light is on but no lights were on ?

I'm not sure if the alarm going off and this warning light are related but its all happened at the same time ????????

Andy, Just try resetting the system...unlock the door manually and press the key fob unlock within 10 seconds.

The alarm seems to be ok now. The remote is working fine. But when the engine is turned off, key out of ignition, as soon as I open the door I get the warning bell as if I had left the lights on ???????

When you use the key FOB to lock the car, do you hear any audible sound? If so this indicates something has been left ajar (like the center console) or a sensor has gone bad.

Hmm... I wonder if you have a bad light switch?

I'm assuming its not a common fault with the light switch.

I'm taking it into my OPC on Wednesday so I'll see what they say.

Would a blown fuse or broken switch throw up a diagnostics code?

Going to plug my Durametric lead in it tommorow, will this show anything ?

OPC thought it was the light switch too but changed it and didn't fix it.

Possible cause of fault

- A voltage drop in the vehicle electrical system (jump-lead starting) can cause fault code 9142 to be stored.

- Instrument cluster faulty

Diagnosis Troubleshooting

1. Withdraw ignition key and then switch the ignition on again. The fault is remedied? if not Step 2

2. Replace instrument cluster.

The voltage drop may have been caused when the alarm went off. The car had been left for a week and a half and then I set off the alarm.

OPC didn't have enough time today to fix it but the next thing they were going to do was replace the instrument cluster.

just for future reference in case anyone else has the same problem.

Porsche had a really good dig about in the car and the instrument cluster was fine. They traced the fault to bad wiring in the engine bay. It took them about 8 hours to find but saw 2 wires which had worn and they were both live and was causing the problems.

Hope no one does become victim to this
