I had my dealer hardwire my V1......why take a chance on screwing something up for a couple hundred bucks....

very simple just take into the driver side fuse box or use the homelink power in the center console

Yup, I agree....just grab power from the drivers side fuse box and ground it in there as well. Then you can run the wiring along the dash and 'push it' behind the dash cover....or if you want to mount it above by the visor, just pop the covering off the beam on the side...pops right off, run the wire through there, tuck it under the headliner...and you're all set.

i forget which fuse i used for the radar detector but i used one that was only powered when the ignition was turned on...so that way it turns off when the key is removed...but that was a personal preference

I installed a BEL RX-65 in my 2004 Cayenne S with the "Smartplug" system for hardwiring. It was fairly simple. I used the suction cup windshiled mount just under the rear view mirror, and and I mounted the Smartplug controller on the dash, right by the a-pillar. I ran the wire down underneath the trim for the a-pillar and tapped into a switched fuse, so the unit turns off when the ignition is off. I attached a pic of the Smartplug unit, and of the installation of the controller on my dash.

I used the suction cup windshiled mount just under the rear view mirror, and and I mounted the Smartplug controller on the dash, right by the a-pillar. I ran the wire down underneath the trim for the a-pillar and tapped into a switched fuse, so the unit turns off when the ignition is off. I attached a pic of the Smartplug unit, and of the installation of the controller on my dash.

I tried several different spots, and just under the mirror seemed to me to offer the best visibility and the least obstruction for the radar detector.

PS Valentine 1 told me to mount the device next to or above rearview mirror for the most accurate readings. What are your thoughts? I also had it below the Mirror but the rear seats were blocking the rear-detector.

How is the Bel RX? i heard mixed reviews

This is my second BEL unit. The RX-65 was an upgrade from my previous unit - I believe it was a BEL 985. I looked carefully at the BEL, the Escort and the Valentine before I made my purchase. All three were roughly the same price, within about $40.

I have been extremely pleased with the BEL unit. The sensitivity is excellent, giving me readings much sooner than my older unit did. One thing I like about the BEL unit is that it does allow you to track multiple radar signals in different bands, similar to the Valentine. It doesn't have the arrows, but that wasn't a big deal to me. I think any of the three premium units would provide excellent service.

I put the BEL under the rearview mirror so that the rear sensor would have a decent chance of picking something up - maybe I would have been better putting it up on the visor like you did. I guess my thought was that I liked the front-facing sensor to be high and in the middle of the windshield, as most threats come from the front.

I've attached a pic of where mine sits for comparison.

PS - pay no attention to all the junk in my garage! I'm going to clean it out soon... really...

Hi guys sorry for resurecting an old thread. Just 2 clarificatory questions which i hope you Wont mind: 1st is exactly which fuse number on the drivers side do i piggyback on? 2nd is where exactly is the homelink power cable and which wire exactly in the cluster do I tap if i wanted a 12v power that turns off when engine is turned off as well? TIA!

I'll have to go and check which fuse I used...

I used a volt meter to make sure I had a switched fuse. I'll see if I can take a look this weekend.
