GTS tires

My GT3 RS was delivered on Aug 14th with Pirelli tires, not the Michelin cups most seem familiar with.

Does anyone know anything about the Pirellis or how they compare to the Michelins?

I know one individual that routinely tracks his GT3 RS. I was chatting with him at Texas World Speedway a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned that the Pirellis, in his opinion, were far superior to the Michelins. He drives his RS to the track. He seems to cut respectable times - or so I hear :) Thus, it seems like the Pirellis have at least one enthusiastic and knowledgeable supporter.

Don't know/think this helps much, but at least someone out there thinks you have the superior tire.

The word on the Pirellis is that they grip like no tomorrow but wear horribly.

I'll look further into the tire warranty materials tonight & let you know if I find anything else.

I will order some straight away, the Michelins are to hard for competition unless conditions are very hot.

The Pirelli's are softer,

The Michelin have a wear rate of 80 the Pirelli have a rate of 60

Pirelli are much better in the wet the Michelin are a terrible wet and coldweather tyre and I would be very very very careful using them !!!!

I have mislead you just discovered these tyrs in the picture are Sysem Tyres , they are a great road tyre with soft compound BUT not good as a track tyre there wear rateing is aroud 120 so are substantaillt harder than the Michelin and Pirelli Corsa race I think thoug for every day use a s a high performance tyre they are great.

I was speaking to the Michelin tyre rep at a PCGB track day at the Silverstone GP circuit a couple of months back. Apparantly, they have modified the design of the Michelin Cup to make it much better in the wet; what are the build dates on your tyres ?

3 x sets built Aug plus set supplied on car built June 07

They are unchanged in pattern and wear rate.

Great when hot and dry ,terrible when cold or with standing water ,actually in such conditions they are leathal.

Just ordered 2 sets o custom made 18" wheels (to fit over PCCB) We will now run the Kuhmo V70A 245 x 35 x 18 and 305 x 30 x 18.

I have also ordred a set of 335 x 30 x 18 BUT not sure if they will fit. However the car will now be quicker bu a couple of secs on a 3km trach and have good dry and wet weather performance. Reason for 18", I have been informed it will be some time before true soft rubber will be available in 19" RS sizes, by some time I mean a couple of years. To remain competitive we had to go to 18". The wheels are HRE custom cup wheels made exclusively by GMG Racing in California. Got to say I am really impressed by there knowledge. Hve also purchase a custom Moton damper and spring kit from them . Have done away with PASM.

I was running hot 32 front 38 rear. I was told that R compound should not run over 40 hot??

Cold 26F and 27 R. I look for 32 F hot and 36 R . Above that pressure my GT3 RS gets greasy. Be sure you do a couple of laps to get the heat up before you push them. :)

That's me.I've used the cups and found that in temps below 65 deg F they don't grip as well as the Corsas. I get about 2500 miles at a ratio of 1 track mile for every 4 road miles . I use the car only for track but drive it to and from the track. :)

What about Bridgestone?

to me they have always been the perfect middle between Pirelli (huge grip, fast wearing) and Michelin (medium grip, medium wearing)

i don't have a GT3 but a 987 and i use bridgestone potenza's on them, and have promoted them to a friend of mine who has a 996 turbo, and he confirmed :

they have also huge grip when heated a little (first corners be more careful) , after that it's grip grip grip and the tires wear VERY slowly.

try them :)

My 2008 GT3 was delivered with these Pirelli Corsa System tires and I LOVE THEM. They are as good as Michelin Cup under dry conditions (if not better) and far better in the wet as long as there is not too much wear obviously. Probably even better than Michelin PS2 in the wet. I get them to 32lbs front and 34lbs rear warm.

I personally don't think they wear faster than Michelin Cup but they are more expensive. Now that I started to use slicks (Pirelli D3) on race tracks, I keep them for wet conditions or for DE when the conditions are uncertain avoiding unnecessary wheels changes.
