I've seen several references made in threads on other discussion boards referring to 997s that have been retro-fitted with "GT3 control arms" in order to achieve a wider range of adjustment for camber. Does anyone have any more detailed information on that process and what it actually provides? What part numbers would I want to order for the work? Is this fronts only, or fronts and rears? I called Suncoast and they said they'd never heard of this and just tried to sell me some camber plates.

I'm about take take my (new-ish) 997 in for an aggressive autocross alignment and if this is something I'd want to do, I want to do it first.

Any pointers or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, that's one of the threads I've seen. Unfortunately, all RonCT knows is that his shop charged him $1300 to do the work. He doesn't know any of the details about what was actually done. I'm looking to do the work myself so I was hoping that someone here would have more technical information.

Some shops install the 997 GT3 arms. Those are about 900 each. The bearings / bushings are teflon/steel and intended for racing. The ride will be kind of harsh, but perfect for track. You can use the 996 arms which have a stiff rubber mount instead of all metal. They are half the price. No matter what, you are looking at about 2 hours of labor and then alignment. According to my dealer, the 996 and 997 arms look the pretty much the same except for the all steel or teflon mount points.

I am having the 996 arms installed next week. So I will let you know how that goes for me on my 997/CS4.

Follow up from my previous post. Installing the 996 control arms transformed my 4S into a great handling balanced track car. I was able to better align it for track use. Worth every penny I paid - especially because I stopped eating my front tires.

So the 996 GT3 control arms are a direct swap into a 997? Did you just use the standard 1 mm shims? How much camber did that give?

Just saw this post now. There's no ride difference (harshness) that I've detected and I'm pretty sensitive. The GT3 Cup control arms came with 3mm shims and I'm set at a modest -1.6 front and -1.8 rear (could get up to about -2 front with the 3mm). Total was $1300 for parts, labor, and alignment.

I have the 997 Cup Control Arm on the front, what is the maximum camber for stock 997S. Because I am thinking to replace the rear one too. Thanks.

The 997 Cup Control arm is the same as the standard 997 GT3 control arm, except here in Australia it's cheaper as it has a factory race subsidy. Not sure about the US.

I dial in 2 to 3 degrees negative on the fronts with the cup control arm on my C2S. More than that and you should look at PSS9's or similar. Rears will give 2 to 5 degrees but be careful as the inside tyre wear is savage. It's also important to get a full alignment afterwards as caster and toe can be affected.
