Hi,

Does anyone have a write up for cleaning a bmc air

filter? My brother says to spray some green stuff on, then

hose it of and spray oil on.

Any help!

Thanks,

Paul

There is a cleaning and re-oil kit available from several companies.

I suggest that you oil it lightly and then wrap it in newspaper overnight to absorb the excess oil.

It might save you cleaning your MAF.

Thanks Loren,

I will call my favorite parts place for the kit.

Is the BMC like a K&N and only require cleaning every 50000 miles? Will the K&N filter charger kit work?
Yes, I use the K&N charger - then wrap it in newspaper overnight to absorb the excess oil.

Use a nylon soft brush to remove the heavy particles and back flush the filter from the clean to the dirty side after applying the cleaning agent. Then make sure the filter is completely dry before re oiling, and only oil the filter in the direction of air flow , do not do both sides. As loren says , make sure the filter is wrapped in newspaper or a soft cloth to absorb any residual oil before refitting.

What are the thoughts on BMC vs K&N?

Quite the price difference of $140 vs $80

As you said, the price. Oiled air filters are not recommended toward occasional MAF problems.

According to the BMC manual, the filter should be cleaned every 20,000 miles (25,000 km).
