Hi all,

Firstly I would like to say hi as a newbie and look forward to getting involved in this forum. I have just purchased my first boxster 2.5 1999 and apart from loving every minute i spend in it am looking for things to add / upgrade. I today purchased off Ebay a Sony CDX-656 CD changer (10 disc) to work with the factory becker CDR-22 head unit. The cabling from the back of the stereo to the CD changer was already in place. The changer powers up but after reading theinstructions all I require to do is press the "s" button and I should find the CD changer. No luck with this though. I have removed the stereo and checked the cabling to the rear and theCD changer cable is present in the "C2 slot" with a green plug as per other forum notes. Can anybody tell me how I can get this working?? www.add a changer.co.uk sell the cable and CD changer and say on thrie site it shoud just plug in and work. Read somewhere else the Becker headunit needs a firmware upgrade.

Anybody heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp???

this is the instructions for the aux input. should be the same for adding changer. basically you need to tell the cdr220 that you have the cd changes and you want it to be available in the source (S button) choice.

so basically follow these instructions but look for something about the changer instead. the aux plugs into the same place as the cd changer.

To select Auxiliary Input for Porsche CR220 \ CDR220:

Turn radio ON Press and hold the "TP" button for about 8 seconds, until Becker 1 is displayed. Turn the

Tuning Knob until AUX OFF is displayed. Press either button located directly under the Arrows on the

display to change the present setting from OFF to ON. Turn radio OFF. Auxiliary Audio Input has now

been activated.

Cheers for the instructions. Set the Aux input to on but still no sound. Not ruling out the used CD changer even thought their is power to it as i can insert / remove the cartridge. Any other ideas to get this to work? When i programmed the AUX socket the CD player in becker wasn't available when pressing the "s". Take it the AUX over rides the single CD slot?

Hope i haven't been sold a Dud changer   Think I will have to get it tested.

Any other ideas???

Is there a 'hard' reset button under the fascia of the CDR22 - hit this will a sharp point to reset the headunit and hopefully the re-initialisation should get it talking to the changer correctly. Worth a try...

these are the possibilities:

1. you bought an aftermarket CD-changer that is not compatible with the CD-changer port on the Becker headunit. in this case, you need to buy the AUX-IN Becker cable that attaches to the back of the headunit that ends with 2 RCA (stereo) jacks and then plug your CD changer into it. when selecting your aftermarket CD changer from the 'S' (Source) button, you need to select 'AUX' not 'CD Changer'. also, CD-changer controls on the Becker headunit will not work with the aftermarket CD changer.

2. you bought the Sony version of the Porsche-branded CD-changer. in this case, you would plug the CD-changer into the CD-changer cable on the back of the Becker headunit, and select CD-Changer from the 'S' (Source) button. you may need to enable the CD-changer input on the Becker headunit the same way that you enabled AUX-IN. but if the car previously had a (Porsche) CD-changer, then this input *should* already be turned on.

the Porsche CD-changer is a re-branded Sony CD-changer that speaks a proprietary 'language' with the headunit. if the CD-changer that you bought is the same CD-changer that Porsche sells as their own, it should work thru the CD-changer port on your headunit, and the CD-changer controls on your headunit should work. but you can't just buy any old CD-changer and have it work with the Becker headunit. there should be info on this forum that will tell you the Sony part number for the Porsche CD-changer. hopefully you did your homework and bought the correct CD-changer.

3. you may be confusing the AUX-IN cable with the CD-changer cable or vice versa. look in your radio manual and check the connections to see where the cables are plugged in to determine exactly which cable you have.

my suggestion: get an iPod and hook it up to the AUX-in connection. ;)
