Ok just installed the Alpine IDA-X001 need some help locating a constant power source.

Everything is in place and works fine however every time I shut off the car the Alpine resets (the clock and the settings) because its not on a constant power source.

I read that it may not be good to tap the cigarette lighter for the constant power source so where else can I do it.

I also read somewhere that I can tap the cell phone wires that are under the bat wing...will this drain the battery over time?

Thanks for the quick response i have all the wires together now and I tapped into the green /red however it made the v1 go on and the remote door on the key fob stop working.

My v1 is hooked up on switch power via the sunroof controller.

So what do you think the problem is?

That does not make sense - I doubt that has anything to do with the key fob problem. Red/Green is unswitched which means 12 volts is always present.

What are you using for ground on the 3rd party radio? chassis or brown wire?

brown wire through the harness.

That ground should work then.

I think I would put the radar detector on the switched line - unless it has an on-off switch and you remember to turn it off.

so the v1 thru the sunroof is on a constant?

I thought the sunroof was switched.

I don't know what you connected it to so I can't answer that.

I am suggesting that you re-check any wiring that you have done - because of the odd results you have gotten.

I'll try that after getting off the phone with Alpine they suggest just to go directly to the battery so I don't mess anything up at all.

I agree it doesn't make sense and the only thing that I hooked up on this car is the Valentine 1.

Problem fixed on the harness the accessory and the constant lines where switched. :angry: Everything is a ok now.

This happened to me too. I used the standard VW harness adaptor when installing my Kenwood double DIN. There were problems with the constant, turns out those VW Metra adaptors have the constant and ignition power wires switched.....I think it is the standard case, so heads up to anyone putting a deck in.
