Hi guys just want to find out how many cats I have on my Boxster S. Dealer told me its an 2000 model. Built plate say 1999.

Notice on the second photo theres a pipe with what looks like an oxygen plug attached.

Thanks

If your car is built for US market it had four when it was built. But otherwise it is possible that it only had two from the beginning which also makes it a little bit easier to modify (legally)

2.7 and 3.2 has 4 for the North American Market. ROW has 2, just before the muffler, like your picture.

Our extra 2 cats are part of the exhaust manifolds. Like in this picture.

ok thanks. I have only two then no cats as part of the manifolds. Australia Im from.

Why are they two plugs on the cat in that picture? One is oxygen sensor whats the other?

is it possible to remove the secondary cat to improve performance and sound?

You can purchase aftermarket Cat bypass pipes from sources like Fabspeed (which I'm still looking at). My understanding from reading prior posts is that disconnecting the secondary Cats will not impact the CEL or peformance, but will increase sound. You'll also loose some weight in the process.

You're correct. I recently added Fabspeed bypass pipes to my 2000 S and it did add sound, as well as a little power.
