Okay, I'm finally compelled to take an informal survey.

Please state your year, motor, approx. annual mileage and observed oil usage.

I've got nearly 4,000 miles on my 3.8l motor now (Since May 1!), and have added 3.5 quarts already. This seems high to me, and I'd like to collect some independent information from my esteemed friends here on the board.

Cheers.

Year:2000

Motor:3.4L on a base C2 996 Manual

Total Mileage 58,000 with 9-13 Annual

I can basically go the whole 15k miles in between an oil change without needing to add any oil. But, a few months ago I switched from Unocal 76 gas which my Porsche dealer recommended (we don't get 93 in CA and 91 Unocal is supposed to be better for Knock I think) to Chevron (out of location convenience) and my oil started dropping quickly. Within a couple of weeks I needed to add oil. So I switched back to Unocal 76 gasoline and the problem went away immediately.

I've had this car for 2 years now. No other problems with oil except the above episode. Although they did replace my CAM covers due to an oil leak (compliments of negotiation with the selling dealer and my warranty company; among other problems too) right after I bought the car.
