I am picking up my first Porsche today and the odometer shows 750.6 mls the owner has stated the car has seventy five hundred miles.

If the car has seventy five hundred miles then why doesn't the odometer show seventy five hundred (7500.6)?

Is the mileage really seven hundred and fifty miles or is it the seventy five hundred as the owner has stated?

The owner has had some recent medical conditions and with this being my first Porsche what is the correct mileage.

Thanks for any advice

What model and year of car?

The previous owner could have changed the instrument cluster and not updated the mileage. In most states in the US that unlawful - unless they provide a document at the time of sale explaining the discrepancy.

A dealer or shop with a PST2 or PIWIS tester should be able to verify information in the car's DME.

Great thread,

I just had the same question for my dealer yeaterday. I recently purchased a 996TT with 5k miles. I had Rusnak Porsche out here go through the car. I ask them to check the

instrument cluster. They said everything was OK, and that the only source of milage data was stored in the instrument cluster, but I find that hard to believe.

What is the PST2 or the PIWIS, I would like to confirm the milage on cluster with the cars main computer, is that possible?

Thanks

Everyone has brought up some good information but one thing I would like to know is if these type of cars have odd ways of displaying the mileage that I should/need to know about.

Example: Do they only display a certain amount of digits in the numbers and this would account for the seventy five hundred miles only displaying three charactors before the decimal?

I dont believe the owner has had the instrument cluster changed but maybe believe that with his prior medical condition he just really doesnt know if its seventy five hundred or seven hundred and fifty either way I am picking up the car and will later try to determine if the mileage is what he says or what is stated on the instrument cluster.

Thanks again

Ok, now a chance to clear this up. I have the car in my possession and had my wife follow me home and we both clocked fifty miles on the odometers of both vehicles.

It seems the owners Dyslexia, poor eyesight and recent stroke left him thinking the car had 7501 (seventy five hundred)miles on the car when in reality it was 750.1 (seven hundred and fifty) he did not/could not see the decimal so therefore it now has a total of 801.8 on the odometer.

The navigation system in the car also confirms the same mileage as the cars odometer.

Ok, now that I have shown everybody how much a newbie I am with Porsche it seems that the previous owner and I was looking at the trip odometer since most of you already know that the odometer doesn't show the decimal. After finally getting my hands on the owners manual.

The numbers above the trip odometer currently read 1107 and it appears to be set on miles and not kilometers so is the mileage on this car really eleven hundred and seven miles?
