My car has been locked and sitting for a few weeks now and I think the battery is dead. When I use the key to open the door there is no resistance and the door does not open. I have no idea how to get in. I tried to set-off the alarm and it didn’t work. I also tried to put my key in the door lock turn it three times and try the alarm again and nothing. Short of breaking the door window (which I’m about to do) I have no idea about what do to. I’ve read that you can open the hood with by pulling a latch in on the driver’s side wheel whell (sp?). The problem is that the wheel lock is inside the car and my car sitting pretty low. I really appreciate any help.

If your car has been sitting longer than 5 days then you need to open it with the mechanical key. See your owners manual for more detail.

Thank you, I have three keys- one that has no alarm; which i tried to use (this smaller key opens the glove) and two with alarms; are there more keys?

Yes- i've tried with the keys that I have and no luck. I inserted each key in the door lock and the key simply turns

Ok, I misunderstood you. You can open the door but you can't get tin the front trunk - right.

If so, use the emergency release cable behind the right front wheel well liner.

sorry - let me clarify - I've tried using both by disarming the alarm and mechanically as well. The doors will not open either way; essentially i'm locked out even though i have the keys to get in. When I try to use the mechanical key the lock has no resistance and I'm not able to get in ~ any ideas?

I guess I still think you need to get to the battery and change it out.

The emergency release is all mechanical so it should still work.

this is located on the drivers side wheel well? if I lift the car with a jack (i'm not able to remove the wheel as the wheel lock is inside) can I still get to it?

On a US car it should be on the passenger side - and there should not be a reason to jack it up.

Some mechanics have a small grab hook to grab the cable and then just pull it to open the trunk.

Loren - isn't the release cable located behind the front passenger wheel liner? That would be tough to get to without removing the wheel. But perhaps jacking that corner and letting the wheel droop would provide enough access to open the wheel liner. Some folks re-route the cable so it's accessible from the hole for the tow hook. But I'm not sure it can be fished out from there without re-routing it first. Is that were you think some mechanics are grabbing it from?

Well, if you are lucky you can get to it from underneath (like I've seen several mechanics do). If not then - it is a lot more work to take the wheel off and partially remove the wheel liner.

I just had to break in to my own boxster with a locksmith...

and in he said if the battery is dead - the porches are pretty much locked up tight...

Look where the tow hook goes to see if someone moved the cable there. I pulled off both of my wheel liners with the tires on and looked for days for the dumb wire until I cheked the tow hook opening and it was sitting there waiting for me (where someone had moved it to).
