Well, after a Porsche tech "advise that you not attempt this", I jumped in. Conclusion...I replaced my defective regulator and buttoned everything back up and...it works great, took the better part of a whole day. If the regulator in the door is a 5/10 difficulty, this was probably a 8.5/10. One piece of advice I will share because I had to learn the hard way, DO NOT EVER DROP ANYTHING INTO WHERE THE REGULATOR RESIDES. If anyone needs some tips on this procedure, I would be happy to advise...

Hello Viper!

I recently posted a similar question on Rennlist and just came across yours here and have run into the same situation with my rear quarter window regulator going bad except the drivers side on mine. I was wondering if I may ask you some questions please?

1. If you don’t mind me asking where and how much did you have to pay for the unit?

2. Is it all one unit, motor and regulator together or can you just buy the regulator?

3. Were you able to find any info on how to remove the paneling in the back to gain access to the regulator/motor?

4. Did you take any pictures by any chance?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much for your time.

Hello Ronin...

First, Sunset quoted me around $400 for a new unit...but a salvage yard in California had one for $200 plus shipping. Second, I'm not sure if its sold as one or two piece, but I can tell you the one I received was with motor and all. Third, absolutely zero on any info or tips on anything...and I even spoke to a Porsche tech who advised me "not to attempt this". Fourth, no pics...but...I have retained the intimate memorys of this adventure (took the better part of a whole day doing this). Its not as hard as I was lead to believe, but you definitely can not be faint of heart. Be happy to give you details if your interested....

Regards

How did you replace it?

I need to open everything up and see what's wrong with my left rear quarter window.

There was a bad noise and now it doesn't work. I can hear an engine noise but nothing happens.

I tried to remove the panel but the rear seat holder uses a hex bolt of some weird measurement. Metric 2.5 is too big and 2 is too small. Grrr.

Do they use US sizes in a Porsche??
