Retrofitting PCM (not NAV) to 987 with CDR24 and BOSE

I would like to replace the BOSE/MOST CDR24 in my 987 with a secondhand PCM head unit taken from a 997. The main goal is to use PCM to operate a Dension IPod controller which I have yet to install, but I'd like any other "standard" functionality of PCM to work too.

The PCM part number is 997 642 141 02.

Is this a straight plug and play swap, or is there programming needed at the dealer?

Any guides on what steps are needed?

Whenever a MOST device is changed (even part for part) the MOST controllers have to be re-coded to match the new hardware.

Presumably this means a trip to the dealer.

Do you know if this is a simple, quick task?

It should only take a few minutes at the dealer. Even if they run a MOST system test it should be under 1 hour.

If you have the bose amplifier there may be some issues with the PCM . There is a TSB about compatability of bose amplifiers and PCM units , you need to have a match on the version of PCM with a suitable bose amplifier.

I have been offered 997 642 157 01, will this work ok, or are the two units incompatible, as one is model B and one model C?

The parts listing suggests that 997 642 157 00 is for the PCM's with software level C. Since the part number you quote is a digit on from this part number , it suggests there may be a later version of PCM software than C (possibly Cayenne only ?). Though the PCM "level B" units can be updated to "level C "using the update software, I'm not aware of a CD to update beyond level C. Certainly the earlier PCM units (standard production status and Level A) were limited to updating beyond level B due to hardware differences. I would suggest its safer to get either a compatable level B DVD drive ( 997 642 137 02) or a level C (997 642 157 00). If you get a level C drive , then I'd suggest the PCM will need updating before connection to the MOST loop and DVD drive.
