Hi,

I am doing a bit of interior detailing on my 996 40th Anniversary edition and I am wondering what product to use on the dashboard as I am not sure whether the dashboard is leather or vinyl/plastic? I believe the 996 40th Anniversary edition was equipped with "full leather" interior but does mean the entire dashboard is leather or just the instrument cluster cover which I can see is leather due to the stiching?

Do you see any stitching around the hump over the instrument pod? If so, likely leather. HOWEVER, Porsche cautions on using leather conditioners on the dash, as that leather is treated much differently than seat or door panels. The leather is dried and stretched so that it can take the extreme temp variations under the glass. Too much conditioner, and it may loosen. You should simply wipe it down with a damp microfiber (not while it's hot from the sun), and leave it at that. A tiny bit of leather cleaner if needed, or even conditioner, should do the trick, but don't go hog wild.

I've rarely used leather conditioner on the dash. Only the seats and occasionally the doors. And then only once every 6 months or so.
