PCM2 Removal from 996

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to remove the PCM2 unit from my 996 to fit a Gateway500 interface.

I tired the hexbolt to unlock the unit as suggested in some other of the posts, but the unit won't budge!!!

Are there some other tips/ tricks to get the unit out?

It would be nice if there was some pics of the removal process

It's not really a bolt as much as a lock. Try turning it the other way....

Its actually easier to remove the plastic front bracket held in by the torx bolts than trying to turn the allen key locks.

Thanks Nick, I managed to get the PCM2 out.

It was missing the 2 hex bolts on the side which is why it wouldn't budge.

I have read this post, I have followed in the instructions in the diagrams that Loren supplied. How much force is required to get the unit out. I dont want to damage the surround.

I have a 2003 C4S. I get the System Error: Phone, Amplifier, CD Changer not availble, I need to check the wiring at the back or it €2000 to fix. The unit seems to function but I have no audio at all.

Not hijacking your thread, but I need to do the same to see if the aerial plug is still attached to my PCM2, can i feel at the back or do I have to take the unit out?

you can do it but only if you have a two-foot long body part under an inch in diameter:)

p.s. those plastic hex locks are a pain, 4 of them, very little torque they push in metal locks when turned in the right direction, pcm2 is then pulled out with no effort

Check that the hex nut are there, 2 were missing from mine which made it a pain to pull out. If they are missing, slide some allen keys in between the PCM unit and the surrounding to hold down the spring retainers and genetly pull the PCM unit out.
