I've been a member for a couple of months and find all the tips tricks and mods brill...

I put my Fabspeed silencers (mufflers) on my '99 996 Cabrio and love the sound, and have just installed the smarttop and I have to say I am utterly delighted. Porsche what were you thinking in not designing-in this functionality in the first instance!?

Anyway some time ago I read a post that mentioned the need for inspecting the cables that run inside the cabrio top towards the control unit (actuator?) to see if they needed trimming, as if they became over-stretched they could snap. I've turned these fora and the TSB's upside down looking for it...can someone please, please point me in the right direction?

Keep up the good work!

ps Should we get Loren nominated for a spot in the Guinness Book of World records for her encyclopedic knowledge of all things Porsche!?

The 996 folding top is hydraulically actuated, so the stretched cable problem like the 993 and boxsters have isn't an issue. The lid for the folding top is actuated by cables but these very rarely have problems. Pretty much the only maintenance that needs to be done is to make sure the hydraulic fluid level for the top is at the correct level. If it gets too low the top runs very slowly and noisily.
