Does anybody know the approximate range of the remote? It appears that my remote only works within 5 feet of the car. Is that about right? Thanks.

So took my MY03 to dealer this morning to take care of a few things before the warranty expires in august. I asked the service rep if anything could be done with regards to the range on the remote. He said nothing could be done and that was the way it worked. On the way to the office I remembered the TSB I read here with regards to that issue. Is the dealer required to do the work described in the TSB as part of warranty work? Thanks.

Required? Maybe not, but the TSB does say to do it if the customer complains about it.

You should talk to a manager and reference TSB 7/04 9662 Insufficient Range of Remote Control -- dated 8-13-2004.

If needed you can quote this from the TSB:

"If the customer complains that the range of the remote control continues to be insufficient (e.g., even after the remote control battery has been changed), the antenna lead should to be rerouted as described in work procedure (see page 2) in order to increase the reception strength of the antenna, thereby increasing the range of the remote control."

If they won't do it for you, just DIY. It takes all of 6-10 mins start to finish. Stefan and I timed it TY when we did mine and a few other cars at a tech session in early June.

The DIY looks pretty straight forward and I am thinking about doing it myself and not even bother with the dealership. I don't know what their problem is here at the Collection (Miami), maybe it is because my warranty is about to expire, but it was like pulling teeth to get them to do the work. The guy even wanted to charge me for the car rental while my car was getting worked on. I don't think that he liked it when I declined all the service stuff he offered which I have already done, such as the oil change, bleeding the brakes, and cleaning the drains! etc. I also told him about some kind of oily fluid on top of the engine and he asked how I knew about it, and I told him I was in the engine compartment, he almost fell off his chair!!! Like it was something out of this world. Incredible!! Well I guess I went off on a tangent, anyways I think I am going to this on my own. Thanks everybody.
