1. Pull engine cover vertically upwards and off.

2. Separate the six ignition coils from the wiring harness. Refer to the following note for more information.

It is very difficult to access the ignition module plugs to unlock them. Therefore, use a suitable tool (e.g. a bent piece of wire) for unlocking.

Press the plugs against the ignition module to facilitate unlocking. Otherwise, the plug locks may break.

3. Press plugs down slightly, unlock with a suitable tool (e.g. bent piece of wire) and remove.

4. Pull out ignition coil and lay it aside.

5. Remove the spark plugs.

6. Check electrode gap. The electrode gap for the spark plug must be 1.1 mm.

7. Tighten spark plugs using special tool (spark plug wrench 3122B ). New spark plugs are tightened to 20 Nm (15.0 ftlb.) when first tightened.

8. Install the plug coils. When doing so, make sure that the straight surface is pointing to the intake pipes.

9. Reconnect the ignition coil. The connectors must engage audibly.

10. Clip on engine cover and check that it is seated correctly.

I have a 2005 Cayenne V6. Does anyone have pictures on how to change spark plugs on a V6? I have read some posts about the Cayenne S but that is a different engine and more complicated than the V6. It looks like the on the V6 all the plugs are right on top in a straight line..

Also what are the part numbers for the spark plugs. I looked on Bosch and NGK's website and they don't have them for a Cayenne which is strange.. Has anyone used plugs other than what the dealer offers and if so what are the part numbers.

The instructions I posted in post #2 of this thread are for V6 Cayenne.

The correct spark plug for a MY05 Cayenne V6 is 955.170.219.90 Spark Plug IZKR7B

I ordered the spark plugs from the dealer and just wanted to get peoples opinion on why these cost so much. The retail is $19.95 per plug and they are the NGK iridium I believe.

I have always used Bosch Platinums in other cars and they only cost around $5 per plug. Why are these NGK plugs so expensive?? Does anyone have a Bosch part number for a 2005 Cayenne V6, its not listed on their website.

HI,

I changed the plugs today and wanted to offer some advice. To remove the ignition modules you need to get AWL and bend the tip at a 90 degree angle. Then all you do is insert it into the locking clip and pull up slightly. Then the entire module just slides out without any force. In fact if you are using to much force to pull up on the locking clip you are doing something wrong. Its very simple with very little force.

See attached pictures.

On the ignition coil closest to the windshield, there was all this white residue while all the other ignition coils where clean (silver color). Does anyone know what this means?

Please see attached pictures. There is also a pic of new versus old spark plugs that have 55K miles on them.
