Caliper Fading?

The Calipers on my 987 Boxster seems to be fading rather quickly and it only has 26k miles on the odometer. Is this normal?

Can I get the dealship to replace them or will they consider it wear and tear? If so, is powdercoating safe and where's the best place to do it in NYC?

If the car is still in warranty, then Porsche will replace them. I had 3 calipers replaced because of clear coat delamination on my 996.

You will probably need to be perseverant with your dealer to get done, but paint defects like that are covered in your warranty. The issue is that the paint is for corrosion control as well as aesthetics. The braking and thus safety capabilities of these calipers are compromised because of the increased risk of corrosion due to the failure of the paint.

Not so sure I agree on the corrosion issue as in reality this is purely for looks. I agree try and get them to repaint it but if not it is not that difficult to repaint yourself.

They replaced the calipers.

The work order description was:

"Brake Concern

Customer states paint delaminating from fright front brake caliper.

Found caliper faulty

Replaced brake caliper to correct -Warranty"

Do you by chance have a copy of that work order? my dealership is giving my slack saying it's from car wash and I told them that it has never seen a car wash since new.

Do you use some type of 'wheel cleaner' when you wash the wheels, the spotting looks like the result of a caustic solution that has dried on the surface.

Nope, It was always hand washed and the wheels were cleaned with just car wash shampoo.
