Which year to stay away from?

I have heard to stay away from 2004 VW Touareg's.

Which year of Cayenne should be avoided and why?

I Own a 2004 Toaureg and a 99 996, the toaureg has been a very reliable suv, specially when mine has all the electronic details, air suspension, damping and nav. just over 40k miles

I realize not all 04 Touareg's have issues.

From what I have read, the 04 has more issues than subsequent years.

Just wanting to know if there are any year of Cayenne's that have had more problems than others.

I would not buy any 2004. Hold out for a 2005 or 06. The electrical issue have been resolved by 2005. If you have to get an 04, look on the drivers door jamb and look at the build date. 07/04 is about the latest 04 you can get before the 05 build date starts.

I have an 04 Cayenne S

The only minor electrical issue i have noticed is the back window popping up on random occasions, but Porsche Centre melbourne offered to remedy this and many other issues free of charge.

I remember them also sending me a letter to bring it in so they could check a fault in the park brake.

I havent had these issues remedied yet but havent had any problems either.

Next service i'll get them to go through it.

just bought an 04 cayenne s. cant speak about the other years, but i ran into the ignition coils issue, had the gas struts for the trunklid replaced and the parking brake actuator replaced. the engine is really great (once the coils were fixed) and all of this was done in the last month of warranty. i also have a problem with the park assist going crazy for no reason..but i have yet to clean the sensors.
