I installed my B&M SSK earlier and was out driving it, it was working fine, then when I was putting all the interior pieces back onto the car, I noticed the top of the ssk where the bushings connects to the housing is cracked a bit. The ssk shifts fine, but the crack might worsen. How the hell did this crack occur? I am thinking it was too tight for the bushing on the housing and it cracked under pressure? I know the housing is a 300 dollar part, so not sure whether or not I should replace it, the crack isn't too bad. I will take pics in a few. Maybe I can sell this barely used for 50 miles ssk then get the porsche one that replaces the housing instead? Ideas? Suggestions?

996.424.010.05 is the part number for the black shifting assembly that I need to replace?

Also I had questions on the B&M SSK. Does it always lean toward the driver, I know the lever tilts toward the driver. Now having the B&M is is more difficult to move back and forth in the neutral position. I noticed 3rd gear feels slightly more to the right, but everything else shifts fine. Is this normal?

The local owners have put in a lot of the B&M units over the years and never cracked the plastic housing.

What I notice in your picture is that the front blue aluminum shell for the white plastic bushing is not located correctly. The shell has a groove at the bottom that matches a key on the plastic housing. The front shell is off by about 80 degrees in your picture. The rear shell looks fine. This is actually common because when you tighten the lock nut for the front bushing the shell likes to rotate and jump the key.

With pliers rotate the front bushing shell so that it is positioned correctly and see if that closes the crack. You want the groove to face down. You can feel the grove with your finger.

Also in your pic looks like the 2 left side clips for the boot are missing, but that has nothing to do with your question.

Thanks for the input Tool Pants,

I adjusted the blue aluminum bushing in the front and it now sits correctly lined with the shifter. It also caused the crack to settle back into a more original position rather than twisted and contorted as it was before. I tightened the lock nut too much as the shifter was sliding back and forth and wanted to be sure it was not going to move when I was driving. I tightened it just enough. I must have lost the clips for the boot when I was redoing the install several times  Hopefully everything will be ok.
