I have a 2000 996, my wife had a wreck in it and it has been one issue after another for the past year. I am finally nearing the end of this ordeal and have one issue I am trying to solve.

I purchased the car used and it had a k-40 360 degree radar detector. the display was located in the area below the radio and above the "bin" for coins and junk. The previous owner had used a display from a valentine one in the slot and had a custom surround built for it. Well know the company that is installing the new system to replace the one damaged in the wreck say and I agree the best place for the detection lights is in the dash. I like the way k-40 does this and think it is best, but it leaves me with an open slot below the radio.

I had thought of installing the cup holder here, but it is designed to go in the slot occupied by the a/c control. So in order to get the cup holder in I will have to have the a/C controls moved down and then put the cup holders in thier slot. This looks pretty in depth adn I am not sure that the insurance will go for it. Does anyone have any other reccomendations as to what I should fill the slot below the radio with. Do they make a cup holder kit to go in this slot. It just seems dumb to have to move the A/c control just to allow the vents to heat and or cool beverages.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Search through the forum for NAV system installations. There are several people that have installed aftermarket NAV systems where the A/C controls currently are. They moved the A/C controls down below to the slots you refer to, and it appears they didn't have any problem with it.
