1999 996 carrerra unexpected P-code

Recommended Posts

My OBD II reader just returned P0171 and P0174 for 1999 996. These codes show up on this forum under the category for MY 2001-2005 996, but aren't listed for MY99. Does that mean my car has a > 1999 engine? How to find out? Thanks.

More likely your code reader?

What are you using?

An Innova 3100. Looks like I hadn't got the previous reading to clear properly. I connected it to another vehicle I had used it on previously and erased it (since no MIL alert on that vehicle) and then tried it again on the 996 - got a valid (and different code) that time - P1123 "Oxygen sensing Adaptation Area 1 (Cylinders 1-3) Lean Threshold." Do you know if that is one before / after the catalytic converter? Thanks.
