I have an '01 996TT and if the car has been sitting for a few days it will make a funny noise when starting. I guess the best way to explain it is that for about the first .5 - 1 second the car sounds like a loud fart. Sound quickly goes away, and will be gone completely for starting and stopping throughout the day...Leave the car sitting for awhile and same sound...What am I missing? I've heard of bad DV's causing noises like this...any thoughts?

Car is bone stock right now

Thanks,

Wiz

I have an 01 as well and it does the same exact thing at start up after sitting for a few days. My car is not a daily driver so it sits for estended periods of time.

I understand there was a TSB pertaining to oil starvation at start up on the early production cars.

I believe you need to replace a valve by the oil tank drain plug but I am not 100% sure.

Loren can you please shed some light on this subject. I hate to be causing unwanted wear when I can prevent it.

You should have this problem if your car was built after the date below:

From TSB 3/00 1728 Lack of Oil Pressure on Start Up -- dated 7-27-00.

As of May 18, 2000, a modified non-return (check) valve is being installed from engine number M96/70 – 64 1 01282. The new part is identified by a light blue paint dot
