Porsche short shift kit install

I just purchased the Porsche short shifter from Brandywine for my 2003 C4S. In talking to my local dealer, the install is roughly 3 hrs??? Are there any instructions available for this install? My guess is that it is similar to the b&m unit? Any idiosyncracies to this install that I should know about?

Any words of advise would be greatly appreciated!

Porsche wrote a TSB for installing their shifter but TSBs are only available to Contributing Members here.

Search for and find the free B&M instructions here. You could use those instructions too and would not be doing any of the shifter rebuild if you use the Porsche part as it is already assembled.

I wish I could tell you...All of the paperwork is back at the house. It is the version that Brandywine has been running the special on, that's about all I can tell you right now.

I've seen where you've provided a PDA file of B&M installation instructions for a similar question some time ago, but I haven't been able to relocate them. I've just become a member of RennTech, so please bear with me as my I.T. skills are somewhat limited at this point...

The Porsche Short Shift kit was purchased from Brandywine Porsche for the sum of $312.95 delivered to my door. I elected this route just because I wanted to keep it real with Porsche parts...To be honest, the B & M kit looks to equally as nice, probably better, than the geniune Porsche short shifter for less money...As I recall, the regular price for this item is $400 and change...

I believe the special is an on going thing...They'll be glad to sell you the shifter for $299.00 is my guess. I would give them a call...

I would offer that the B & M shifter install instructions were excellent. However, the Porsche shifter, for anyone attempting this, looks to be slightly more difficult to install due to the 2 plastic "cups" that must be pressed in at each end of the shifter housing assembly. I spent almost 45 minutes trying to press the new plastic pieces in where B & M uses machined aluminum billets with c-clips. I finally had the idea to use a small bar clamp from my woodworking shop to use as a press of sorts to gently press the new plastic pieces in. The bar clamp I used had a plastic covered universal joint/pad on the movable part of the clamp. The Porsche plastic cups have little "fingers" that hold the cup in place (once you snap it into the housing...) and when you try to press them into the shifter housing, they usually go askew. The clamp allows you to move to the "high side" of the cup so that you can continue to press it in place while you hold the new shifter linkage centered in the housing.

The only other issue I had was removing the parking brake access panel - ended up snaping off a clip, but I was able to repair my mistake...In all, I was finished in 2 hours...The short shifter works great and is an option I would highly recommend. :clapping:
