Hi Everyone. My 2000 Boxster runs fine. Its got 52k on it. My top is still working, but I have another problem. The light on the dash goes out when the top is down but stays on when the top is up. Theres a bonus problem.I here a static popping noisewhen the top is up that seems to come from the top of the dash, the speakers or even the rear engine compartment. I hear it when the radio is lowered or off. It seems more frequent when I hit a bump in the road. I listen hard but can't pinpoint the sound. It seems as if something is not grounded and is touching the body or building up a static charge. My old battery went dead and I may have over charged it before I realized it was completely shot. Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :help:

I think you should try removing the top latch switch and see if something in there is muffed. Likely it's not registering that the latch is closed. Maybe there's a bad ground in there... A bad ground could cause noise to come through the stereo.

I tryed replacing the top switch and the relay still have the light on when the top is closed. I have not driven it again to check for the noise. Are there any other switches for the top other than the hand brake? Where is the ground on the switch or the body? thanks again.

There is a micro switch in the left B pillar ( seat belt area ) you have to dismount the interior trim, the switch is well hide.
