My 99 Boxster S Tips has 95 C during traffic jam today. Is is normal when outside temp was around 22-25 C?

I have checked there is no coolant lost, all the fans work normally, everything is normal except the temp has risen up to 95 C (Never been at 100 C).

Is it normal? How about yours? Any suggestion I have to concern or check? Please help!

The temperature is approx. 85 C regardless the outside temperature, the ventilation holes to the radiators are real dirt bags, remove the front shell - the air ducts - separate the airco radiators from the water radiators and clean till it all looks like new. Do a test drive after reinstalling.

Would you please telling me where is the ventilation holes, Front shell, airco radiators, water radiators? Are they located inside of the front bumper?

Any links or picture for DIY?

You might want to start with the owner's manual....and look at the front of your car....yes, inside the front bumper.

Yes they are in and behind the front bumper.

Thanks a lot. A very good websit.

Done. The temp on highway is 85-87C right now. But it is still climb up to 95C during traffic jam. It does staying at 95C (The ridaitor fan on) untill driving on highway. Is it normal?

That is a little high. I would make sure both fans are running.

Sometimes a ballast will go out and only one fan works then.

If the the only time it rises to 95C is when stopped in traffic I would not worry about it.

You are only 1 degree C above normal in highway driving.

Dear Loren,

This is Allan and I'm new here. Just wondering I'm leaving in Sumer country(Malaysia). I'm facing a problem like when traffic jam my boxster 986 m96 2.5L water temp at almost 100'C and some time it's more than that. Is there any body give me the information how to settle this problem? Before it I confirm the both fan are working good.

I think that is OK too, as long as the stage 2 fans kick on (very loud fan noise from front of car).

I've read about drivers that reach track temps of 105+ quite regularly.

Well worth cleaning your radiators though if you have never done this before (see post #6 above).

Just clean the rediators outside or I need to dismantle the radiator and ask the specialist to clean the radiator inside? But I face this after the coolant hose burst and after I replace the coolant hose then only this kind of thing happens.

You shouldn't need to have the radiators flushed unless the car had a cracked head/intermix problems.

Just the outside of the radiators and in between the AC evaporator and radiators is good enough. The DIY outlines the specific procedures.

I agree with juniinc that there could be air in the system. If you performed coolant hose repairs, the DIY I referenced earlier in post #6 is useful as well since there is a specific bleeding procedure to follow if you don't have an vacuum tool to refill the system with.
