boxster 550 spyder / sport exhaust / oettle

Hi everyone,

I just bought my 2nd boxster s last week in Germany.

It is a 550 spyder manual, with PCM and cocoa dressing.

I was going to buy 987s but decided to get the more 'unique' boxster.... although a bit less modern.

I bought it to an OPC with 1 year guarantee and had a very good deal too!

My question is the following for you guys, i had an oettle sport exhaust on my previous car:

I want to put one of my 550 spyder because i thought the sound was awsome and complimented the car really well....

My problem is for the tip of the exhaust which is specific for the 550... the guys at oettle do not have any of these, and they are v expensive at porsche (500 euros for a tiny bit of metal)... Shall i just use a normal facelift exhaust and transform it and keep the original one in storage?

I' d have a 550 spyder with regular twin pipes.... What do you guys think?

Or if someone knows where to get only the 550 spyder end pipe for reasonable money so i can send it to oettle and they attach it to a facelift exhaust... pls do!

You can remove your special edition tip and send it to them. I don't know how they could use that tip for the bypass pipes. You may have to use the single or dual tip.

The other thing is I don't think the bypass tubes will clear the bumper on a 2003-2004. They would have to keep the bypass pipes close to the muffler.

i spoke to Marcus at Oettle and he said he already modified post-2003 (facelift) boxster s exhausts.

He also mentionned that i send him my 550 tip and that he would put it instead of the dual pipes

+ i saw pictures of the 2003' s modified on ebay and mounted on a car. So i assume that it does work...

The bypass pipes are actually along the upper section of the exhaust, so i assume that there is enough space for them to clear???

Only thing i fear: is the 550 spyder rear bumper identical to the regular facelift boxster s???

Who is that Andy in the thread you mention? Funny he is near Stuttgart as Oettle is very near that place too! They are in Ulm.... Is it the area of Germany where they all manufacture sport exhausts for boxsters???

You can see in the link he registered on Renntech, but that link is 3 years old. Andi would also cut the muffler open, but would not tell what he did. I guess the sport exhaust makers like the Stuttgart area. Eisenmann makes the factory sport exhaust, but I do not know if the are near Stuttgart. http://www.eisenmann-technik.de/

This is the Oettle site. http://oettle-autodienst.de/ When if first saw their mufflers they did not have a 2003-2004, but now I can see in your ebay link that they do. It looks like it clears the bumper. The special edition bumper is the same as the normal 2003-2004. The special edition has a screen on the diffuser, but this does not matter.

If you check on boxa.net there is talk of finding a local place to do this modification.

Unless someone proves me wrong or show me some original alternative!

I had a look at the eisenman website, but no sign of porsche.

I always thought the facelift 986s PSE was NOT available in europe?

Please prove me wrong!

Jeff, i actually remember that post, and i had investigated with local porsche dealers in the UK and in Germany at the time, but the answer was that it was only available in the US. Not homologated in Europe.

Maybe this has changed?

Do you know of any other way to get hold of one of these? direct from the manufacturer (eisenman?)?
