Hi all,

I need some expert advice....

A friend of mine recently sold his Boxster and kept the hardtop to sell at a later date. His car was a '97 Boxster and I have a 2001 Boxster. I was wondering if his hardtop would fit my car.

I will need to have it painted, since his car was Red and mine is Black.

Does anyone know if it would fit and whether it is a DIY job? Do I need to buy extra parts in order to "mount" the top?

Thank you all for the attention.

This is the best 986 forum on the web!!!!

All 986 hardtops interchange with any year. 1997 and had the "ears" but this has nothing to do with how it fits.

The parts you need to mount the top are the 2 inserts and 2 bolts shown in the picture.

Thank you very much Tool Pants for your prompt and knowledgeable advice...

Just one question - What do you mean by ears? Does it not look nice?

I will have it shipped from Brazil (my cost will be only the shipping), so I have not seen it....

Thanks,

Gustavo

This is an "ear." The cover was removed for mounting the roof rack. Then Porsche decided it was not necessary when mounting the rack to attach it to the hardtop, so the ears went away.
