I just bought a 2007 cayman (2.7). Has 600 miles on the clock. I recently noticed that when I start it up in the morning, I get a cloud of white oil smoke, which immediately clears. I assume this is from oil which has seeped into the cylinders while sitting. I went to the dealer , who told me not to worry, it's normal. Still, seems weird to me. Doesn't smoke any other time, and oil consumption is not excessive. Anyone had the same experience ? Is the dealer being straight with me ???

I recently noticed that when I start it up in the morning, I get a cloud of white oil smoke, which immediately clears.

The flat six with its horizontal cylinders will collect residual lubricant at the bottom of the cylinders when the engine is stopped. It won't flow back like vertical cylinders would and a puff at start-up is normal. The owner's manual should mention it. You can sleep restfully.

It's happened a couple of times to me during the first two weeks of ownership. Each time, the car was parked on a slight downslope (tail down). My dealer said the same thing and I've seen others report this on the Caymanclub forum. I'm now at 1750 miles (2 months) and it hasn't recurred.
