I have a question on closing the hood. The hood’s rim does not automatically align/seat in the “channel” provided (refer attached photo).

I have to manually align it half way through the closing stage.

Is it a common issue?

Any suggestion on how this can be resolved?

i'd like to know if this is common as well.

i randomly have this problem. sometimes it'll close fine, other times it'll do what your first picture shows so i have to reopen 1/2 way, go out, tuck that piece in and close again...

I think there is a strap on the inside that holds the top in place. It has come apart on my 1999 Boxster.

Mine does it all the time. You are supposed to turn over a leaf spring, located sort of above the seat belt location, held on by two screws, which has deformed through age. Tried that, no use. Bought new springs, no use.

Cannot get an answer anywhere on a fix.

very common. i've seen this happen on many Boxsters, mine included.

i believe there is a TSB regarding this issue.

i know it is fixable, but i'm not sure how exactly. ;)

Its actually a braided steal cable that is sewn into the side edges of the top to firmly seal into the top of the plastic window trim... When the top is halfway opened, you can see the screw mounted location of the torqs screw holding the thin braided steal cable on near the bottom edge of the plastic window trim. I think what causes this is the top canvas being very tight and pulls one cable out of alignment before settling into the channel, you should try closing it properly and having an upholstery shop steam the top of your canvas to help stretch it out and leave the top closed for a week before testing if it worked or not.

OR first you can try appling ArmorAll to the area in the picture below to allow the cable to more easily slide into place.

And they call the convertible top the 'hood' across the pond.

One guy posted a topic about a problem with his hood not closing and the dash light staying on. I replied as if his front trunk hood might not be closing... but then noticed he was in the UK. I added an alternate answer if he was using the Queen's English definition of 'hood', which of course, is the convertible top. Turns out it was the top, and he just wasn't holding the button until the top stopped it's operation on it's own.

Boot, hood, trunk, bonnet, saloon, sedan... it gets confusing!

Yea, the "bonnet" is usually the engine cover (USA=hood). Wonder how that works with a Boxster ? :P
