All,

Recently picked up my Boxster S, it came with two keys, so I was thrilled. However, neither of the car remote key buttons work to disable the alarm or unlock the doors/trunk. The batteries are good in both keys, I see the red light flashing when I press the buttons. I can manually unlock the doors and disable the alarm no problem. Is there something I can do to fix this myself, like a re-sync or something to engage the remote option?

I would appreciate any feed back.

Thanks!!!!

I can't answer why, but mine does the same thing any time I haven't driven the car for a couple of days. I can't unlock the doors or the trunks with the button, but I can unlock the door with the key, then push the lock/unlock or the trunk buttons and it will start working again. I always thought that it was because I'd keep the key in my pocket all the time (16 YO boy at home...) and probably was activating the lock/unlock button in my pocket - away from the car, but it does the same exact thing if I leave the key in a drawer for a few days. Thought it was the batteries - nope. Did the shimming "fix" I read about on one of the boards somewhere - nope. Finally gave up trying to figure it out.

The remote receiver will turn itself off after a few days of inactivity (4 or 5?) so it won't drain the battery.

Once you have unlocked your car with the keys, it will switch itself back on.

Toby,

If it doesn't, what should I look for to fix or replace, the remote receiver itself?

Thanks,

You might try the key reset procedure, which is to install the battery upside-down in the key for a short period, then return it to the correct configuration.

I had a key fail. It looked like the battery was worn out (red LED would either illuminate dimly or not at all). I replaced the battery. Then, I could read by the light of the LED, it was so bright. But, the remote functions of the key still didn't work. My wife's key worked fine, naturally. I had my dealer troubleshoot the problem and was told the transmitter in the key had failed....even though the LED would illuminate. While the transponder ("glass pill") in the key still worked so I could start the car, I bit the bullet and bought  a new key head and had it programmed.

Cheers,

Bill
