I got a couple Richard, one to leave in each car. If the cat warning light comes on I want to know why sooner rather than later. Used it to get rid of a few codes I got after the 996 had sat for a while (300 series), easier than setting up the computer and the OBDII cable I got a year and a half ago.

I decided to try a code reader despite Richards comments that it probably would not work which is what the code reader seller on ebay also said. Only 2001 on cars in europe, but for £38 i thought why not. The reason for trying it was the engine check light on and rough idle. The car is a 1997 2.5.

Dont know how well it worked but it did come up with 5 codes, 0300 multiple cylinder misfire, and 0301/0302/0303/0305 for each cylinder. I used the Generic scan on the reader. My suspision was the MAF because the check light came on immediately after fitting a new K & N filter to replace the filthy one fitted by the previous owner. I know K & N say it does not affect the MAF but that was my thought. Anyway i took the MAF off and cleaned it with solvent and it seems OK now.

No MAF fault showed up on the reader.
