Door Sill Install

I found a seller on eBay who is unloading lots of the OEM Stainless 986 Boxster door sills for $149 + $12.50 S&H. (Link), P/N 986 551 981 01

I'm purchasing a set and wondered if anyone has instructions on how to position them. Possibly a measurement from the door latch or something. Any help would be appreciated.

The position and measurements are the same as the plastic stock ones i guess.

Most folks just put a piece of tape to mark where the old ones are - then put the new ones on using the tape mark.

If you have already removed the old ones then you will need to find another Boxster to measure on (as that measurement is not specified in the service manual).

Thanks for the reply, Loren. Unfortunately, I'm not replacing sill guards, I'm installing them on bare sills. I was hoping someone might be able to send me the measurements or post a photo so I would have some idea of the positioning. Maybe I'm making too much of it and it will be obvious when where they go when I actually get them, but I thought I'd ask.

The 2.5 and the base 2.7 did not come standard with door sill protectors. The standard plastic ones were for the S.

This is an aftermarket one being put on at a local work on cars days.

Not sure if it's spec or not, but I recall reading somewhere (and used on mine) something like:

-use a piece of tape 15.25" long, and measure down from the bottom of the door striker following the contour of the jamb to locate the position for the rear edge of sill

also, using the contoured shape of the rear edge of sill, you will be able to locate where it should go w/ ease as the jamb is beveled to fit.
