I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my car. My car won't start. I put the key in the ignition and turn it, only the airbag light comes up but nothing else. I didn't drive this car for over a month. I figured it was a battery issue so I replaced it. What can the problem be? I am thinking it is some sort of kill switch or fuse pr something to do with the alarm. I was reading some posts and one post said the alarm resets after 5 days.

My car is a 1999 Porsche 996 coupe with 76k miles.

Try locking the car using the key - then unlock it using the key. Try to start it again.

Then see if the symptoms change...

I did that already. Still only the airbag light comes on. I will next try to reset the key fob by turning the battery around.

I reseted the key fob and the car still does not turn on. Do you guys think the problem is the ignition switch?

Anything different of you jiggle the key in the ignition?

If so, it is likely the switch.

I jiggled the key and nothing happens. It does not have the typically ignition switch symptoms listed below. I did the emergency locking procedure and I did get the other dash lights to turn on. When I try to crank it, nothing happens. I also reseted the key fob. I wonder if its the ignition switch, starter, or something else.

"A little symptom info...

First noticed that key sliding into the lock felt 'funny'.

Then key began turning back to the (1) position on its own after tuning the motor off (0).

Had to 'hold' key in position (0) to remove.

Key became difficult to put in.

Electrical started going nuts... the blower motor, central locking, headlights etc.

Decided to leave the key in overnight in case it would not go back in.

All electrical appeared to be dead the next morning.

Finally, switch replaced."

Thanks for the advice. I just replaced the ignition switch. Now all the electronics work but the car still doesn't start up. What else could it be? Clutch interlock switch? Also, does anyone know where the starter is located, I am going to jump the starter?

I figured out the problem(actually problems). It was a combination of a bad battery, bad ignition switch, and a blown fuse on the alarm module. The car runs and drives perfect now.

Thanks for everyone's help in this forum!

Hi

The electric part of the ignition switch is faulty, you have too replace this part first. After replacement lock - unlock the car by using the key ( manually ) try the remote, red led flashing=inside batt. is O.K. If there is no response while using the remote, there is a problem with, try remote 2 using the same procedure.
