Need Dash kit part number

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a 1999 996 and the wood dash kit part broke. I am not very good at explaining where this part is so i took some pictures. Can anyone please tell me what this part is (part Number) so that I can buy a replacment. I tried using super glue to keep it from sticking up and it does not work.... Some please help...

PS i dont know how this broke, I live in FL and I am thinking it was the sun that cracked it and melted the adesive?

Thanks in advance!

hi Loren, Thanks for the quick reply.

It is the piece above the defroster next to the windshield. Only the passenger's side is broken, the driver's side remain in tact. (they are separated by the infared system) I have take some more pictures to help locate the exact part. Also, I got the car used and it came with limited materials. The color of the wood tirm is dark ( i have taken a close up of the wood in hopes that you can guide me in the right direction)

Does this thing happen alot? Am i the lucky one here?

My best guess is "dark maple rootwood". It would be best if you checked your original option list (under the front trunk lid or in your maintenace handbook).

996.552.989.03.M31 defroster trim - dark maple root and Boxster Red leather -- MSRP $436.94 (try Sunset Imports - Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost for a much better price).

I know that I had to have my steering wheel replaced while the car was under warranty because the wood had cracked, and it has the dark burl wood / leather three spoke stering wheel. The previous owner had known that it had cracked, and since he'd ordered the steering wheel, the shift knob, and the hand brake with the car it had the full 50K,4yr warranty attached instead of the standard 2 yr warranty for dealer installed options.

Since I had it replaced ~2 yrs ago I haven't had any problems.
