1998 Carrera C2, RHD. Pride and joy.

Last sunday the alarm siren went off for no external reason. No flashing lights. Car had been standing for 10 days (to my shame).

After this event the alarm beeps twice on locking car, then gives a single beep. At the same time the interior central locking button red light also flashes.

Since then alarm has gone off three times, once when car was unlocked.

I have found that the alarm stays quiet if the key is in the ignition. Keeps peace with neighbours, but doesn't make for easy sleeping. Certainly not to be recommended in car parks.

For several reasons I'd can't get to a dealer for a week or so, so could anyone please tell me if I can temporarily deactivate the alarm, and if so how, in a way that would leave the car lockable?

Thanks

Chris

If you use the emergency locking procedure - turn the key to the lock position and back three times in succession - it should lock the car, but disable the alarm. The procedure is described in the owners manual. Having said that, if your alarm is going off with the car unlocked it's anyone's guess if this will work. Worth a try though.

Thanks for the input Richard.

Just to check, though. I'd read the manual and believed what it said on p15 that the emergency locking procedure leaves the alarm switched on. Hence I hadn't tried it, but I will.
