Is there a fuse for the keyless system? The key fob still lights up so Its not the battery. Its not a long red light or anything either...

What can I do? Resetting does nothing...

There are some posts on this problem,

As I understand it, the light and switch circuits are not the same.

Just because the light works, does not mean the door switch part is working, go figure.

It is probably an older key, and the trunk switch does work.

So it is not a problem with the transmitter or receiver.

If you do a search on the forum you will find some solutions.

They involve cutting plastic bags and shimming the worn switch,

which by the way does seem to work. :thumbup:

The remote stops working after 4 or 5 days of inactivity, open the door with the key, push the key in the ignition switch and turn to the contact position while pushing on the opening button of the remote. If the system refuge to work, replace the remote. This is a PIWIS job. There is a fuse in the alarm control box under the driver seat but troubles with the fuse are rather infrequent.

I did an extensive search and it seems to be a fairly common problem...I am now looking for alternatives to 200-300 for a new key!

Hi, I just went through something right along these lines I came home from Baghdad and I used my remote well it just stopped working. I did the battery and then tried Lorens sequence and it turned out I needed a new remote. My dealer told me $250 for the remote then I called Sunset and got one for $100+/- You'll need the dealer to program it. You can either use your old blade or go ahead and get a new one, I got a new one. Sunset is one the forum pages under "Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost." They have some on eBay for around $80 but that is at your own risk.

What does it mean when the red light on the key fob flashes rapidly while pressing the button? Time to replace batteries on it? I have never had a "solid red light" when I press my key fob and in the last few weeks, the reach of the remote has gone down from its original (almost insignificant!) reach. Yes, I will eventually get to do the DIY mod for longer reach on the remote keyless :notworthy:

If the problem is in your car's computer (not as likely), then a new key will not help.

If, in fact, your key head has failed electronically, then you don't need an entire new key. You take the metal shaft out of the bad key head and put it into a new key head on it. I bought mine on ebay for approximately $75. (be sure any new key head comes with the bar code tag, or it cannot be mated to your car).

Then, a visit to the dealer (MUST be a dealer) cost me $47.50 for having two key heads mated to my car. In and out in less than 15 minutes.

If you need a new metal shaft for any reason, I paid about $85 to Sunset, after faxing them a copy of my title to prove ownership.
