Mobil1 0W-40

Recommended Posts

I know of only one, Mobil 1 0W-40,

and I had a hard time finding it at the local auto stores.

The previous reply is a good web site for checking out the products however.

Take a look at the first and third picture of the 0W-40 from this thread:

You'll note the European Car Formula in the first pic and the SuperSyn Technology in the second pic.

The first picture looks like older packaging, and the third I think is newer.

If you go to mobil1.com you will see the newer packaging.

To make it more confusing, if you look at the Mobil1 0W40 PDF, you will also see European Car Formula (NA) or Protection Formula (EU), but not SuperSyn Technology. Only one Specifications and Approvals are given for 0W 40. I think it’s all the same or evolved some with time.

Hello again,

So I found a Kragen that carried Mobil1 0W-40. The problem was nowhere on the bottle did it say "SuperSyn anti-wear technology". I asked a guy there about it and he said don't worry all Mobil1 oils have SuperSyn. Well, I went ahead and bought 9 quarts but now I'm wondering if that guy knew what he was talking about. Is what he said true and so I don't have to worry? Should I take them back and find a place that carries 0W-40 with "SuperSyn" written on the bottles? Attached is a pic.

thanks,

David

So what would I use to top up a MY06 987 then?

thanks!

http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1.aspx

This implies that all mobil1 has super syn in it.

Extended has 50% more, but not made in 0W 40,

and not approved by Porsche.

Just get Mobil1 0W 40 and you will be fine, if you would feel better

get it from your dealer.

Just diy'ed the 75,000 mile oil change on my 2000 Boxster 2.7 and now getting an Oil Pressure fault at idle while hot. It only flashs on for 1/2 second they back off at stoppes. I used Mobil One 0-40 Full Syn. Should I replacing it with 15w-50 and see if that solves the problem or disreguard the light totally? I live in Arizona and it gets very hot here in the summer.

I would NOT disregard any warning lights, and ask my dealer what the problem is.

15W 50 is NOT Porsche approved, but you might want to check this out.

All you did was drain the oil and change the oil filter - right?

Does the dipstick show the right amount of oil?

No, I changed the Polybelt to an OEM due to a squeel I'am experiencing on Cold-Startup. This did not help the squeel. It sounds much like starter grine. I did the oil cap test and could not get the squeel w/the cap off, however I put the cap back on and could not get the squeel then.

I also changed the air filter, washed the engine, powder coated and rebuilt calipers, installed new rotors and brakepads. Which I am stopping quicker now and it is on these sudden stops that the oil light flashes. It does not occur on slow stops.

The oil level is correct now, however when I first changed it I over filled it by 6 or 7 oz.

thanks for any advise

During troubleshooting I found that I was experience an excessive crank case vacuum. As it turn out the oil light was from a bad oil/air separator. $120.00 to Pelican and 2 hours of easy labor and the beast is healed!
