Hi,

I drove my 97 Boxster all over the place today because it's nice and warm out. At one point I stopped at a light and it just died. It took me about a minute of turning the key and pumping the gas to get it to start again. A little while later I noticed a loud high pitched whining noise comiong from the front of the car. Now when I start the car the lound high pitched whine is there all the time. Additionally, sometimes the car either won't start for a few minutes and I have to keep turning the key and pumping the gas or it'll run for a minute and then idle roughly and die. Obviously whatever is causing this loud high pitched whining is adversly affecting the engine's ability to run. The noise is coming from the front end inboard of the two front wheels. If you can help me I'd seriously appreciate it. Thanks

possibly the fuel pump?

OK, that seems reasonable. Is the fuel pump up in front of the car? Would it produce a very loud high pitched squeal if it were malfunctioning? Anybody know? Bueller? Bueller?

The pump is in the fuel tank, under the battery. A faulty fuel pump can produce a high squeal.

Well then it may not be the fuel pump. It's not coming from under the battery. It's much farther forward. It almost sounds like it's coming from where the radiators are.

In this case it is possible that one of the cooling fans get stuck, but this gave nothing to do with your problem.

I advice you to visit a Porsche workshop or a good independent.
