Hello everyone, I have been a silent member since I bought my 2000 996 last summer. However this question I can't answer on my own ( I tried!!).

Suprise suprise my car has an RMS leak (44k mi) and I'm going to do it myself, I have all the parts lined up that I need except one.

Where can I find the tool needed to press in the new crankshaft seal?? I have looked everywhere! Pelican parts dosent seem to have the newest version ( the one that sets it 5mm deep) and I cant find any place to rent or sell one. If anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction I would greatly appriciate it!!

I just ordered the RMS and clutch kit form Sunset Porsche in Oregon and they told me that they could get the tool for me ... from Germany.

I think the idea is to make sure that you have concentic hole or the case halfs align, as far as inserting the seal measure in the distance and mark, take a plastic cup the same size as the seal and tap in until you hit the marks evenly around. Now we all know we are supposed to use the proper tool! This is my disclamer. Also I installed the 997 seal, case half bolts and INS seal as well since I was down there :lightbulb: Edited by Mother

I do not know where you can buy it other than from Porsche.

I took this picture 2 years ago at a tech session. I have seen this version of the tool used with the 997 seal.

That is NOT the factory tool. Given the finnicky nature of the seal, and its apparent sensitivity to improper installation, I'd be reluctant to do the install without the correct tool.
