I had this question on PPBB earlier whithout success.

When I run my engine at 2200 rpm there is a whistling sound from the hole in front of the gasfillercap. (not the draining hole below)

I can feel that air is being sucked into the hose and sometimes it's starts to whistle.

Can someone tell me if this is normal (except the sound) and what should I do to get rid of It

Of course: it's a 2000 base Box

I've seen a 996 that had a problem with one of the valves in the tank vent system. When the car would purge the charcoal canister you would hear a whistling sound from the fuel filler. It sounded like someone was blowing across the lid of a beer bottle. Unfortunately it was a long time ago so I cant remember which valve it was.... maybe someone else can chime in.

It's not normal and requires a valve in the vent system to be replaced. I had this several years ago and it would happen at various speeds. In my case I could make the noise stop by modifying the throttle position.

The dealer can do the work but I also think it's a possible DIY job.
