Is it just me, or has there been a change in the board settings?

Everytime I get on the site, I would have to re-log in.

It used to be like other sites where if you don't log out, it will remember you the next time you log on.

But now, even though I still see renntech cookies on my system, I am required to log in everytime.

It's rather inconvenient if you are checking in frequently all day at intervals.

Sorry, the problem of not remembering you after closing your browser is a new problem with the board.

The company that makes the software just did an update to the software and that got broken somehow in the process.

I suspect they will have a fix for it sometime early next week. Please be patient until then.

Similar problem on boxa.net seems to have been sorted. Is this the problem?

"The new 'stronghold' cookie feature present in Invision Power Board 2.2.0 goes a long way to solving this dilemma of security/complacency however, in the spirit of 'defense in depth' Invision Power Board offers further protection. Now, a new log in key is generated upon every successful authentication whether from a manual log in from the log in form or via a persistent log in. The log in key also expires after 7 days."

Can it be turned off by you Loren?

Okay, this problem is now fixed. Sorry, for the inconvenience.

If you want to correct the problem immediately (instead of waiting for your cookie to timeout) just:

1. Clear cookies in your browser for RennTech.org.

2. Delete your browser cache and close your browser.

3. Re-open your browser and login again.

You should now stay logged in unless you don't visit the site within 7 days (most folks do).

Loren, the same problem has been happening again since yesterday.

I have logged in like 3 times today, Everytime I load the site, I need to log on again.

Unless it's an issue on my end?

Try deleting the cookie in your browser. You will have to login again.

But that should cure it.

I did that Loren, didn't work. Tried that several times over, no luck.

Is it just me? But the other sites I frequent are fine.

I use IE7 at home, that's where I have the login issue just the past 2 days.

The strange thing is, I'm at work now and it's fine. (I'm using IE6 at work.)

I'll see what happens when I get home tonight...

I have a similar issue since updating from IE6 to IE7. Every time I connect to Renntech from a different location (home, work) with the same laptop I have to log in. Once logged in I can come and go without logging in again, but when I change location I have to log in on first connection. It's no big deal for me, as I just double-click on the username box and it brings up my username and password from the cookie. I just thought it might help to know, and that maybe its an issue with IE7. These things never seem to affect people in exactly the same way.

Ok, that makes more sense now.

A few months ago we updated the software here and it added some new security features. One of which is a "stronghold cookie". This type of cookie identifies the machine you are on and stores it along with your info. It has some other features that I would rather not elaborate on - since these are for added security and keep people from stealing your cookie (at some other site).

If it really bothers everyone then I can turn the stronghold cookie feature "off" - but then your cookie would revert back to a standard (unprotected) cookie.
